On Friday, October 30, 2015, NASA will host the 20th Quarterly Meeting of the Federal Knowledge Community (FKMC) in Washington, DC.

The FKMC meets quarterly at participating federal agencies to share strategies for Knowledge Management (KM) and share and further innovate creative solutions to make KM more effective within individual agencies, across the federal system, and beyond.

During this fourth meeting in 2015, Denise Bedford, PhD, Instructor, Georgetown University Communication, Culture and Technology program, will present on “Knowledge Walking Out the Door – Strategies for Knowledge Transfer with Contractors,” which will be a facilitated discussion to improve knowledge retention with contracted federal workers. Bedford recently spoke and facilitated a discussion at NASA’s Glenn Research Center, drawing on her experiences working for some of the most innovative knowledge organizations, including General Motors, Intel Corporation, and the World Bank.

During the afternoon session, Turo Dexter, Knowledge Management Officer, DOT, will update on the Area of Interest survey recently completed by the Federal KM Community. At the 19th Quarterly Federal KM Community Meeting, participants expressed interest in creating working groups within FKMC. Over 20 Areas of Interest were gathered during that meeting, which were reviewed and grouped into categories. The full community of 200+ members had an opportunity to complete the survey that will be updated at this coming meeting.

All registered members of the Federal Knowledge Management Community (on www.max.gov) are welcome to attend in person or by Adobe Connect. The meeting will take place at NASA Headquarters, 300 E. Street, SW, Washington, DC 20546. Doors open at 8:30 am, and the program begins at 9 am.
