Blue Origin, a private spaceflight company founded by Amazon.com CEO Jeff Bezos, has announced that it will offer opportunities for scientists to fly payloads on its New Shepard vehicles.

Blue Origin anticipates being able to accommodate experiments on unmanned test flights as early as 2011. It also plans to serve scientists whose research requires operating an experiment manually from space.

The company has enlisted Dr. Alan Stern, Principal Investigator of the New Horizons mission to Pluto and former NASA Associate Administrator of the Science Mission Directorate, to serve as its independent representative for research and education missions.
