The Competency Models linked below are provided by APPEL Knowledge Services to support the professional development of NASA’s technical workforce. The models define key competencies, such as Risk Management or Product Integration, and provide an outline of the proficiencies expected at increasing levels of responsibility. Each competency includes real world examples and a skills list. There are separate competency models for Systems Engineering and Program and Project Management, with 14 common competencies appearing on both models.

Regularly reviewing and assessing the Competency Models will help determine where skill gaps exist and need to be addressed. The models can be used in conjunction with our Development Frameworks, Course Catalog, and our Curated Curricula to identify courses and development resources to acquire the skills and abilities that are considered drivers of success at NASA.

Start by selecting Program and Project Management or Systems Engineering.
