Do you have responsibility for overseeing or supporting a NASA acquisition? If so, the new Acquisition Topics Seminar is for you.

The seminar covers three essential topic areas for acquisition professionals: market research, writing skills, and effective tools for business advisors.

The market research module teaches the skills necessary to plan, execute, and document a successful market research effort. Effective market research enhances an acquisition strategy and contributes to mission success.

Writing skills are critical for describing the government’s needs, objectives, and constraints in performance-based acquisitions, as well as for developing clearly stated plans and evaluations. Two days of the course will be a writing workshop focused on developing an effective Performance Work Statement (PWS), Statement of Objective (SOO), and Quality Assurance Surveillance Plan (QASP).

The third module in the seminar focuses on ways an acquisition professional can transition from a transaction-based, compliance-oriented role to a highly valued strategic asset for the programs and projects they support. Exploring interpersonal skills and team dynamics is also part of this course. Students will learn techniques for the development of business acumen and will be provided with industry insights on how to achieve greater mission results through acquisition.

The five-day course, which will be offered simultaneously at Wallops Flight Facility and Ames Research Center, will take place August 2-6, 2010. Registration closes July 28.
