NASA in the News

NASA announced a Grand Challenge focused on finding all asteroid threats to human populations and knowing how to deal with them. Grand Challenges are ambitious goals on a national or global scale that capture the imagination and demand advances in innovation and breakthroughs in science and technology. The challenge is a large-scale effort that will use multidisciplinary collaborations and a variety of partnerships with other government agencies, international partners, industry, academia, and citizen scientists. It complements NASA’s recently announced mission to redirect an asteroid and send humans to study it.

Mars 2020

NASA has announced plans for a new robotic science rover set to launch in 2020. Designed to advance high-priority science goals for Mars exploration, the mission would address key questions about the

potential for life on Mars. The mission would also provide opportunities to gather knowledge and demonstrate technologies that address the challenges of future human expeditions to Mars. NASA’s plans include openly competing the opportunity for the mission’s specific payload and science instruments.
