“Understanding the Community Needs” is the theme of the next meeting of federal agency knowledge professionals.
The 27th Quarterly Federal Knowledge Management Community (FKMC) meeting is scheduled Friday, October 20, at U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) headquarters in Washington, D.C. DOT Federal Transit Administration Knowledge Management Officer and FKMC Convener Turo Dexter is the host.
Agenda
The 27th Quarterly FKMC meeting will open with a panel discussion facilitated by Johel Brown-Grant, Professional Development Analyst, Communities of Practice (CoP), for the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General. The panel will consist of a group of FKMC founders who met in August and September to discuss, among other things, the history and growth of the federal knowledge community from 2010 to present, perspectives on what FKMC members need from the community, meeting formats and content going forward, and how to enhance the online CoP experience with APAN.org. The panelists will provide insights from those meeting conversations and review data from a recent needs assessment survey distributed to FKMC’s 240-plus members. They will also describe how the data has informed planning and the FY 2018 direction for community activities and communications.
Other presentations and activities planned for the meeting include:
- Small group break-out sessions where meeting participants will have the opportunity to engage with FKMC founders to discuss survey questions and results in greater depth, and provide additional insights and needs.
- Overviews by representatives of two agencies describing the knowledge management function at their organization, provided in a storytelling format that features reflections on start-up, challenges, successes and lessons learned.
