Cooperation across NASA centers can have a huge effect. NASA’s Fabrication Alliance, which began 10 years ago among four aeronautics centers and now spans all of NASA, has increased manufacturing skill and efficiency at all centers by sharing knowledge and work.

How did this group create such a long-lasting, successful partnership? By building personal connections with each other through constant communication. Members tour each other’s facilities, meet as a group twice a year, and keep in touch and discuss issues through weekly teleconferences.

What the Fabrication Alliance created through conversation led to a remarkable collaboration that continues today, bridging the gap between cities and centers and creating a network that helps NASA remain innovative and efficient in manufacturing.
