Successful persuasion depends on the ability to present with confidence and authenticity. For a technical workforce, this calls for developing an advanced set of skills that are broadly applicable in contexts ranging from team meetings to senior leader briefings to professional conferences before larger audiences. This course will give participants a practical understanding of effective public speaking skills, covering a range of issues including: tools for persuasion, nonverbal communication, storytelling tactics, and performance techniques to manage anxiety. Learning methods include instruction, discussion, video clip demonstrations, and interactive exercises and simulations that integrate visual aids.

All technical professionals and managers at every level who must persuade others through talking.

Matthew Kohut is the managing partner of KNP Communications. He is co-author of Compelling People: the Hidden Qualities that Make Us Influential. He has prepared speakers for events ranging from live television appearances to TED talks. In addition to conducting communications training for clients in the government, private, and nonprofit sectors, he has served as a communications consultant to organizations including NASA, the Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency, and Harvard University. Matt holds a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University and a B.A. from the Writing Seminars at Johns Hopkins University.
