APPEL Receives IACET 2015 Exemplar Award

NASA’s Academy of Program/Project and Engineering Leadership (APPEL) has been recognized for its exemplary, results-oriented training program.

On September 10, 2015, the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) announced that APPEL received the 2015 Exemplar Award. The award underscores the Academy’s significant contributions to the field of continuing education and training in support of NASA’s technical workforce.

“We are honored by this recognition of APPEL’s professional development activities,” said APPEL Director Roger Forsgren. “Over the years, our partnership with IACET has continually inspired us to strive for excellence in ensuring the agency’s project management community receives the high caliber of training they deserve.”

APPEL is recognized as an Accredited Provider by IACET, a distinction that serves as an independent measure of the quality of the Academy’s professional development efforts. Through its world-class training curriculum, support of development programs, and strategic communications, APPEL helps ensure NASA’s technical workforce has the skills and knowledge they need to advance mission success. Over the past five years, APPEL has trained more than 14,500 participants across the NASA centers. More recently, the Academy expanded its utility to stakeholders through novel online capabilities, including the interactive APPEL Catalog and Project Management and Systems Engineering Competency Model.

“At APPEL, our goal is to continually improve resources and tools to support the professional development of the agency’s technical workforce. The recognition of our efforts by IACET, whom we consider an important partner, is tremendous,” said Steve Angelillo, APPEL Deputy Director.

IACET will present the Exemplar Award as well as three others—for distinguished service, learner engagement, and technology integration, respectively—during their annual meeting in Chicago.

“IACET is pleased to recognize these winners as representing the highest quality in adult training and education today. Each winner has accomplished outstanding results through a keen focus on best practice standards and protocols in the field of continuing education in the workplace. Today, employee learning is faster paced and more in demand than ever before. We welcome the accomplishments of our award winners as truly representative of IACET’s accreditation practice for ongoing employee training and development,” said Sandy Williams, IACET Chair.
